3/1/26 & 3/2/26: rabbit rabbit

3/1/26

I got a rabbit cookie cutter today and, moving forward, I'm quite excited to make millions of rabbit cookies.

For good luck, at the beginning of the month, you're supposed to say "rabbit rabbit". And, I'm guessing, for extra good luck you eat a rabbit-shaped cookie.

I love the idea of good luck. It feels elusive. Like sometimes I have it in spades, and other moments it slips from my fingers, eluding me like sand through a sieve.

Okay, it's poem time now.

Mouth moves

Remember it doesn't matter when

the crisp reference relishes in your familiarity. The bubble pops, and

you are here like a freckle.

Soft in a clutch, barely audible.

But your mouth

moves across memory like

a skillful hiker moves across a

make-believe mountain in a

handmade paper boat,

spatially placed in repose.

In measuring cups

we pour maple syrup over

everything,

and you open your mouth.

I feel like I've been going after everything I want lately, and marking things off my to-do list. I always have a to-do list. If it's on there it seems to happen. At least lately. I did three annoying things yesterday that I've been putting off, including updating my resume. It felt good.

I'm still waking up at odd hours in the night. For example, it's 3:47 a.m. right now. Why am I awake?
