3/7/26 & 3/8/26: decay as change

3/7/26 & 3/8/26: decay as change

3/7/26

Some sounds I heard today:

-Wind-chimes

-Birds

-Aphex Twin

-Sad disappointment. Does it make a sound? It feels like it does, but maybe only I can hear it.

-The scurrying prance of deer feet running away from me on top of a layer of crinkly leaves strewn through a thicket of trees.

-A river. No, not of melancholy but an actual river flowing over all the rocks.

I've been running into a lot of lovely rivers lately. And decaying pumpkins too, which I love. I can see it now: Decay as Change. A series in watercolor. Pumpkin decay is a worthwhile watercolor series. I'm trying to think of other mediums that are well suited to communicate decay. Any, if you're adept enough I suppose. It would be fun to try to relay decay through my textile collage work.

What decays?

1. Pumpkins

2. Relationships

3. Us, when we die

That's a surprisingly short list, considering everything decays.

What can get blocked?

1. Creativity

2. Anyone on social media

3. Someone playing soccer, or some other lesser sport

4. Pipes

5. Arteries

6. Rivers (damn those dams!)

7. Cars on the road (fuck you traffic!)

3/8/26

Right now I'm working on a series of free-form embroidered pieces I'm calling Map of Mind.

Working on a textile bracelet this morning at 7:36 a.m. on a Sunday. I feel like I have to be waking up super early to get all the art done I want to get done. I have this large mixed-media painting I really want to finish. That's the main one on my mind.

The way I work is that I always have a million pieces in the To Be Finished pile. I get up from work constantly and just leave it unfinished for awhile in order to start new work. It's kind of a nightmare but, alas, its my creative nature. My brain passionately wants to finish them all at once, but my brain wants a lot of things that aren't possible. It's a certified dreamer.

Shockingly, I've been having these drawing spurts where I make a drawing in one stretch, not stopping until it's done. What a miracle.

I start my second surface design class next week at my new favorite clay studio with one of my new favorite teachers. I love that I'm-so-excited-to-learn feeling I get right before a class. A fresh bag of clay: What causes more elation than this? (Well, love. But don't even get me started. Love can screw off.) I'm going to be churning out so many creature cups (I like using the word churning because it reminds me of butter and I love butter).

I used wax for the first time the other day before dip glazing, and it was no big deal. I'm not sure why I was so scared to use it for so long.

I remember I had someone tell me they were inspired by my freedom and the way I expressed myself. They told me they wanted someone like that in their life. It was in a romantic context, but I believe that's my general purpose while I'm alive: to inspire others and help them feel free.

Presumably, if they don't cancel, I'm going to the Rose Garden today with a friend. I haven't been there since I was a teenager.

Micro kale was involved in my breakfast this morning. Who am I even? Who have I become?
